Our Center

Accommodations & Facilities

Nihue Rao is located in the small village of Llanchama, about 1 hour from the Iquitos Airport by boat or mototaxi, and is surrounded by vibrant jungle on all sides.

To give you the space you need to focus on your healing, we have on our premises everything you could need while here: medicine, housing, diet food, complimentary laundry and entertainment, including 24/7 Wi-Fi (in collective areas). Our grounds are plentiful with spots to meditate and connect with the medicine, and we keep them tidy so you can truly relax.

The Maloca

Our traditional maloca is at the center of both our grounds and our retreat activities. We hold 4 ceremonies per week in our maloca, on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The day after ceremony, we also hold integration conversations in our maloca, with our shamans, to share your experience, ask questions, and set your intentions for the following ceremony.

Guest Rooms

Our pasajeros stay in one of 25 individual wooden rooms made in traditional Shipibo-Conibo style. Each room accommodates a double bed and comes with a mosquito net, electricity, sheets, a polar fleece blanket, pillows, and a towel.

All of our rooms have electricity 24 hours a day and a wall plug to recharge devices. The wall sockets accommodate American and European plugs.

Tambos

We have 11 isolated bungalows, called tambos, for long-term dieters. They are a wooden construction with walls of mosquito netting, and equipped simply with a bed, desk and hammock.

To enhance the dieting process, our tambos are isolated within the jungle on the property of Nihue Rao and do not include electricity. All bedding and towels are provided, with the option to have meals delivered to further support isolation.

The Lounge

Our center has a lounge accessible for guests 24 hours a day. It’s a comfy space with couches, a hammock, electrical outlets, and Wi-Fi. It can be a nice space to hang out, socialize and meet new friends, read a book from the small library, or play a game. Connected to the lounge are our facilitation offices, where you can meet with our team of facilitators to discuss your experience.

Dining Room

Attached to our lounge is our dining room, a collective area where a buffet of Ayahuasca diet-friendly food is served. Depending on the season and local availability, you can expect to find grilled chicken, fish from the Amazon river such as boquechico and doncella, rice, grilled green plantain, potatoes, quinoa, lentils, green peas, root vegetables, and pastas. Oatmeal and hot tea is available all-hours, and apples and other fruits are available while supplies last. All of our water is filtered and safe to drink.

Shamanic Shops

Maestro Miguel and Maestro Filacio alongside their family members, each have shops at the center where they create and sell exquisite and traditional Shipibo artisanal goods, including clothing, visionary embroideries, jewelry, pipes and accessories.

Casa de La Medicina

Our staff prepares our ayahuasca, plant remedies, flower baths, vapor baths, and vomitivo in our medicine house, located near our maloca. Guests who are dieting a plant come to take their plant remedies once a day, Monday through Saturday, often at 10 a.m. or 3 p.m.

Cultural Experiences

We welcome our pasajeros to participate in traditional cultural experiences such as the Kukama Tribe dances (when available). We believe that activities such as these are good to relieve stress and negative energies, and a chance to come together with our community here.

Day Tours

Our staff can organize day tours to visit local jungle flora and fauna, river boat trips, or other activities with a local guide. These trips require an extra fee, please inquire if you are interested.

Gym

Our on-site gym houses weights, yoga mats and other exercise equipment, available for use any time. We also hold group meditations, yoga, and breath work in this space.

Massages

Twice a week, we offer massages from skilled massage therapists, also known as huesistas, to supplement your healing process. Massages are available for an extra fee, not included in the price of your stay.

Botanical Garden

A short walk from our art maloca will lead you to our botanical garden, which features a variety of Amazonian master plants, such as Piñon Blanco, Chiric Sanango, Chai Pei, Piri Piri, Malva, Achiote, Marosa, Piñon Colorado, and Toe.

Art Maloca

Flex your creativity in our art maloca, where you can find paint, pencils, and other art supplies. We also hold this space for musical exploration, sharing circles, and socializing.

Ayahuasca is legal in Peru. The Peruvian government declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation, “the traditional knowledge and use of the ayahuasca practiced by the indigenous native communities of the Amazon…”
